About Me
Hello!
My name is Elle Bishop (pronounced like the letter L). I am originally from Eagan, Minnesota and I use she/her/hers pronouns. I am currently a junior at Purdue University majoring in Multidisciplinary Engineering with a concentration in Theatre Engineering. I expect to graduate in May 2026.
I am looking to pursue challenges that require an advanced understanding of mechanical engineering concepts but also the unique requirements of live entertainment environments. More specifically, I am interested in automation and controls projects. I am passionate about making the most wild and ambitious creative visions agree with the laws of physics to create extraordinary entertainment experiences.
What is Multidiplinary Engineering?
Purdue's Multidisciplinary Engineering (MDE) program is an ABET-accredited major where students can combine the coursework of a traditional engineering degree with other academic disciplines.
In the Theatre Engineering concentration, we start by taking the same foundational classes that the Mechanical Engineering students take. We supplement that foundation with courses from the Department of Theatre that teach subjects like controls, machine design, and project management specifically through the lens of live entertainment. To top it all off, for our capstone project, we apply our unique skillsets to a design challenge for a Purdue Theatre production.
You can learn more about MDE and the Theatre Engineering concentration here.
Additional Involvement
Outside of the classroom, I am involved with Purdue Bands and Orchestras. I am a member of the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band, a student leader in both Boiler Box Band (volleyball band) and Gold and Black Sound (women's basketball band), and have been a member of various other concert bands and orchestras.
I am also a volunteer for the Operations and Logistics Volunteer Management Team. In the fall, we act as student managers for the marching band. In the spring, we are responsible for facilitating equipment and managing the stages for the Purdue Jazz Fest, the largest student-run jazz festival in the Midwest.
